Smartphone addiction among university students in Tunisia

Introduction Popularity and availability of smartphones have dramatically increased in the past years, led to a great impact on people’s daily lives changing their habits behaviors. This trend is accompanied by concerns regarding potentially adverse effects problematic smartphone use, particularly with respect physical mental health. Objectives In this study, we investigated prevalence associated factors addiction among Tunisian university students. Methods It was cross-sectional, descriptive analytical web-based conducted 144 students Tunisia. Data were collected using an online questionnaire spread throughout social media (Facebook), Google Forms® platform, during September October 2022. We used “Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version” (SAS-SV). Results The mean age participants 23.38±3.27 sex-ratio (F/M) 2.8. Tobacco, alcohol cannabis use noted respectively 12.5%, 3.5% cases. score SAS-SV 37.92±8.82. Among students, 68.8% considered at high risk Smartphone addiction. Male more likely be higher than females, without significant relationship. Scores significantly users (48.4 vs 37.54; p=0.006) non-medical (39.07 36.11; p=0.049) Conclusions University are vulnerable population addiction, may lead negative psychosocial effects.
